A clear and cold night at Sylvan Lake State Park. We arrived late and set up in the dark. It was freezing and luckily we had some soup which we warmed up along with some sandwiches before getting the boys to bed. I was still jazzed from driving up the mountain in the dark on the dirt road trying to find our campsite, so I decided to take a walk under the stars.

I grabbed my gear and headed out, but about 20 minutes later the flashlight just stopped working. I banged it against my hand until that hurt and then against my leg until that hurt. Then I gave up and decided that walking under the stars wasn’t so bad. Luckily my eyes adjusted before I walked into any of these trees, or the lake.

This 25 second exposure of the Milky Way above the trees and mountain ridges was shot at 11mm at f/2.8 and ISO of 6400.
Hope you enjoy!
