A buddy was visiting from DC just a couple of days ago and we decided to try to get out and shoot sunrise on one of the mornings he was here. He shoots music mostly these days but was really interested in getting out to Folly Beach. I can never turn down a sunrise beach expedition so we got up early and headed out. Unfortunately some huge thunderstorms sprang up and we decided instead of Folly we would make for a guestimated gap in the storms at Sullivan’s Island. As we were driving the winds picked up and the lightning flashed all around. Quickly we made it out to the beach and tried in vain to capture lightning and sunrise mixed together. I never got any great shots and then the rain and hail hit. After the hail finished the sun made its way closer to the horizon and the light was incredible.

This shot of the returning wave in the midst of the rainstorm turned out pretty well.

Keeping all the lens and filter dry in those conditions is another matter entirely. 🙂
